Dry atrophic macular degeneration is generally characterized by a slow but progressive visual loss. This is characterized by yellow spots under the retina, called drusen, which are accumulations of metabolic waste products. Symptoms include blurred or decreased central close-up and distance vision, blind spots, micropsia and straight lines look distorted.
