The vanilla plant (of the genus Vanilla, most often of the species V. planifolia originating from Mexico) is a flowering vine that grows according to the structure supporting its height, reaching up to 300 feet in length. Vanilla “beans” is the dried orchids from the vine that contain the many compounds, including vanillin, that contribute to the delicious flavor.
